The ARCC is organising a very special rally in 2011, following an approach by the Hawkhurst Partnership to celebrate the village's connection with the Rootes Family.
Starting on the morning of 21st July 2011, the entrants will depart from Coventry Motor Museum, waived off by the Lord Mayor of Coventry. Following a pre-determined route, over the next two days, they will take in sites which have a connection with the Rootes family, leading them to Maidstone, Kent, the genesis of the Rootes Group. Locations such as Humber Road, Ryton-on-Dunsmore, University of Warwick and Devonshire House, to name but a few.
Once down in Kent the weekend will centre around the Ramada Hotel, Maidstone, with a detailed road run on 23rd July to Goudhurst, Cranbrook and of course Hawkhurst. Guided walking tours around these villages will be included, to show the fascinating history of these places and the relevance to the Rootes family business.
A short run out to Hawkhurst on Sunday 24th July will culminate in a static display of cars, with a special feature celebrating the 80th Anniversary of the Hillman Minx and the 50th Anniversaries of the Hillman Super Minx and the SInger Vogue.
Alongside the Rootes car display, will be a Food Fair featuring the best local produce that Kent has to offer - including wine, perry, beef, apples, cherries, beer, etc.
This event should have something for everyone, and will be a very memorable one. To receive more information, please e-mail your address to Andrew McAdam to be added to the mailing list.
