This document provides a report on the historical documents in the Rootes Archive Centre and The Imp Club Ltd. pertaining to the manufacturing of the Hillman Imp and its variants and its use by the works for prototype development and competition purposes. The archive contains drawings and other engineering department and factory production records from 1961-1975. We provide here simply a factual listing of the archive holdings, other reflections on the historical and social implications of the Imp car production are merely referenced, but many books and magazine articles are available on the subject in addition to the Imp Club's own monthly magazine, Impressions.
For further information about the Rootes Archive Centre please refer to its Web site http://www.rootesarchivecentre.org and for The Imp Club Ltd., its own Web site at http://www.theimpclub.co.uk.
This document should be read together with the Imp Parts List, its Supplement and the WSM141 Workshop Manual. PDF format copies of them can be found here. They are large, but can be bought on CD as regalia items from The Imp Club.
