FBHVC Drive-it Day
20th April 2008

FBHVC Drive-it Day, Family Treasure Hunt, Rally and Gymkhana.

A rally, treasure hunt and gymkhana is being held at the Rootes Archive Centre, Westcott, on Sunday 20th April 2008. The organising club will be The Singer Owners Club with Sunbeam Rapier Owners Club assisting with the gymkhana. The event will a "treasure hunt" style of road run with the idea of attracting family participation and in particular involving younger members in the "navigating" role. The road run will be followed by a "fun" gymkhana after a lunch break. Scores from both elements will count towards the overall result.

The Treasure Hunt Rally takes place in the morning (starting from Westcott at times from 10am on). This isn’t a hard-driving competitive event, quite the opposite; a chance to enjoy a 50 to 60 mile planned route through the countryside, using a simple-to follow route book and hunting for the clues to the quiz. Getting the answers right is what matters, it’s not a race! If you haven’t yet booked in, we can still take late entries: instructions for printing the entry form are given below, or contact Richard Wheatland of the Singer Owners Club.

The "fun gymkhana" will take place (on hard ground not on the grass) at Westcott, before or after lunch as participants prefer. For those who haven’t experienced this sort of thing before, a classic car gymkhana is just a series of manoeuvring tests around “obstacles” marked out with cones. Walking speeds only, and skill and accuracy are what count, not speed. If you don’t fancy the road rally you can just try your hand at the gymkhana. No special equipment needed; and loads of fun for drivers and spectators alike! And yes, there will be prizes for the best “clear rounds”.

Plus of course the Archive Centre will be open all day (admission’s free) for you to look round and browse, with hot drinks/light refreshments available.

Bring the family and a picnic lunch, and enjoy a great day out while supporting the FBHVC’s annual “Drive It” Day – the day when all owners of classic and historic vehicles owners are encouraged to get out and about and uphold our “freedom to drive...”.

The Centre will be open from 9.30 am on Sunday 20th April, FBHVC Drive-it Day with treasure hunt entrants starting from there. The lunch interval, gymkhana and prize giving will also be at Westcott. There will be tea and coffee available at Westcott, entrants are welcome to bring picnic lunches.

All members from the ARCC member clubs are eligible to take part, only those participating in their ARCC member-club "marque" vehicles will be eligible for awards and entry priority will be given to those bringing the "correct" vehicles. The maximum entry is 100, the minimum entry is 20.

The 2008 FBHVC Drive-it Day is being focused on involving younger enthusiasts, with this in mind the main award of the day will be given to the best score earned by the crew with a navigator "or driver" under the age of 21.

Other awards may be given for the best score of the day (any age crew) and best result in the gymkhana. Also best turned out vehicles pre-1960 and post 1960.

The cost of the event is £15 per car, including any number of passengers. The closing date for entries is 6th April 2008.
