News Release - Models galore at the Archive Centre!

A successful Rootes Model Fair, and news of the Trust's latest venture: we now sell models!

On 13 March we held the first "Rootes Model Fair", an event for collectors of all types of model cars and commercial vehicles - diecast, plastic, new, old - combining model displays, swapmeet and trade stands. The traders filled every possible square inch apart from the Boardroom, which we reserved for displays by dedicated Rootes collectors Chris Derbyshire (STAR) and Ron Atherton (SROC). Turn-out was lower than we'd hoped, because of the unsettled weather, and we had sharp squalls of snow and hail during the afternoon. Despite this, the Friends, Rootes car club members and general public who came along all enjoyed themselves and trade was brisk through the morning. We even had a group of enthusiasts from the Dutch Rootes Club, who had got up at the crack of dawn to catch the ferry and drive all the way to attend the Model Fair. Overall, the event raised over 150 for Trust funds.

We also used the Model Fair as the occasion to launch another new venture: we have negotiated a trade account with one of the country's leading wholesale suppliers of diecast models, so we are now selling Rootes models from the Corgi Vanguards range, at discount prices, at any event or show where the Trust has a stand. Indeed, we can supply almost any model upon request, diecast or plastic kits, they don't have to be Rootes, or even cars! See the whole range available at www.ayreys.co.uk. We also had on sale the first, strictly limited edition, "Archive Trust special" to mark the occasion: a Sunbeam Alpine in Embassy Black sporting the Trust's own logo, with the Archive Centre featuring as the background illustration in the display case. At just 15, these proved very popular and have quickly sold out. Watch out for the next "special" later this year.

We hope the models will prove a popular venture, raising much-needed funds for the Trust while also helping collectors fill gaps in your collections, and saving you quite a bit on shop prices too. We can also accept orders for despatch by post, (plus post and packing charge - contact me for details).
