The Rootes Archive Centre Trust purchases its own HQ Building

The Rootes Archive Centre Trust has now placed a deposit for the build of its own Archive Centre (subject to planning permission being granted). Something like one quarter of the building illustrated here.

proposed building

Sir Stirling Moss launched the Trust's £165,000 fund raising appeal at the 2015 NEC Classic Motor Show and since then the Rootes Car Clubs along with many of their members and supporting companies have really got behind the campaign with both cash donations and loan pledges.

The Trust now has donations (including gift aid) totalling £68,000 with a further £74,000 as loan pledges.

Trust Chairman Gordon Jarvis said "To be able to press the button on our own building after only 12 months fund raising is fantastic - clearly the fund raising needs to continue so we can repay the loans but at least now we know our Archive, which contains thousands of engineering drawings for Rootes Cars, is safe for generations to come"

The new building is to be built on a heritage site in the village of Wroxton near Banbury and will be a close neighbour to the Bentley Drivers Club HQ.

This newly constructed 2,000 square feet Archive will house:

  • Original materials from Rootes-Chrysler-Peugeot from 1920 to 1980 which includes
  • Original Engineering Drawings
  • Extensive photographic Archive
  • Literature and Company documentation
  • Original artefacts from the company

Trust Treasurer Matt Ollman said "Having our own building will give the Trust financial stability and make the Heritage Centre sustainable for generations to come. The Centre will become the home of everything connected to the Rootes marque".

The Trust hopes to move into their new building in late Summer 2017.
